Israeli designer Hilla Shamia has developed this process that she calls wood casting. A log of wood is used as part of the cast. Liquid aluminium flows into the cracks of the wood and complements the final shape. This way she creates various types of stools and benches. An interesting juxtaposition of materials and properties.
